Osun Assembly Begins Hearing on Oke-Osun Osogbo Land Dispute, Pledges Fairness and Justice ‎ ‎The Osun State House of Assembly has commenced a hearing session on the protracted land dispute involving the Oke-Osun area of Osogbo. Former President Muhammadu Buhari is dead. The ex-president died in London at about 4.30 pm, on Sunday, July 13, following a prolonged illness. This was announced in an official statement released by family spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu. He wrote: “The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin.” President Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023 after previously leading the country as a military head of state between 1983 and 1985, was known for his stance on anti-corruption and efforts to stabilise the economy. U.S. restricts Nigerian visa applicants to single entry visits of just 3-months

The United States Department of State will from July 8, 2025 restrict Nigerian nonimmigrant visa applicants to a single visit.  The updated rules is said to be part of its reciprocal nonimmigrant visa policy.  The information posted on its website on Tuesday says the visa will be valid for only three months. Until February 27, 2023, Nigerians applying for the B1/B2 (business and tourism) nonimmigrant visas were entitled to two years multiple entry visa validity. But from February 2023, it was increased to five years multiple entry.  The statement read, “Effective today, most nonimmigrant & non-official visas for Nigerian citizens will be single-entry with 3-month validity”.  The new policy will however only apply to visas issued before July 8, 2025. Six abducted persons rescued by the security team in Kebbi State

A joint security operatives team in Kebbi State has successfully rescued six abducted persons and intercepted herds of cattle, rustled by bandits. The victims and the stolen livestock were from the Kokanawa and Ukuhu communities in the Danko Wasagu Local Government Area. The Director of Security, Cabinet Office, Abdulrahman Zagga, disclosed this to the journalist in Birnin Kebbi. Zagga said that the operation was carried out on the directive of the Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, following reports of the incident. According to Zagga, the security team tracked the bandits to the Zamfara River area, where they rescued the victims, and recovered the rustled cattle.  The bandits fled during the operation. The rescued victims have been reunited with their families. INEC Announces Date For Voter Card Registration In Osun

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Osun State Office has given the official dates for the commencement of the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR. This is coming days after INEC formally announced August 8, 2026 as the date for the governorship election in Osun State. The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Mutiu Agboke who made this known during a meeting with Electoral Officers, EOs, on Monday in Osogbo revealed that the CVR is scheduled to commence on August 18, 2025 for the first phase and august 25, 2025 for the second phase. Agboke also said the meeting was convened as a crucial preparation to assess the readiness of the Electoral Officers for the upcoming CVR exercise. The meeting, he also said is to deliberate on operational issues and general preparedness ahead of the CVR. The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has joined his ancestors. Tribune Online learnt that the monarch, who ascended the throne in July 2024, died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, after spending a year on the throne. The demise of Oba Olakulehin, born July 5, 1935, is coming barely two days after celebrating his 90th birthday. Oba Olakulehin received the staff of office from Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024, as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland. Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne from the chieftancy rung of Balogun Olubadan, following the demise of Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who died at the age of 81 years on March 14, 2024.
