By Opeyemi Akinyemi

The Concerned forum of 2011/2012 retired public servant in osun state has implored governor Ademola Adeleke to implement the judgement of National Industrial Court Of Nigeria on 18,000 naira minimum wage delivered in October, 2017.

This was disclosed at a press conference addressed by the chairman of the forum, Omoniyi Ilesanmi at the Broadcast journalists office, osogbo, Osun state capital.

Addressing journalists, Ilesanmi said, the N18,000.00 minimum wage came into effect on 1st March, 2011 when they were still active in the service.

He said, the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola implemented the minimum wage for the officers on Grade Levels 01- 07 from 1st March, 2011 and promised to effect that of officers on GL. 8 - 17 as from 1st August, 2011, but failed to fulfill his promise on the implementation of the wage increase for the officers on GL. 8-17.

"The #18,000.00 minimum wage came into effect on 1st March, 2011 when we were still in the service of Osun State. The government of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola implement the minimum wage for the officers on Grade Levels 01- 07 from 1st March, 2011 and promised to effect that of officers on GL. 8 - 17 as from 1st August, 2011.

"The Governor did not fulfill his promise on the implementation of the wage increase for the officers on GL. 8-17. Ogbeni Aregbesola waited till we retired enmass on 31st December, 20012 before he signed another circular, on the same 2011 agreement, on 1st May, 2013 to intentionally sidetrack us from benefiting from the new minimum wage.

"We wrote a letter to request that our members be included in the newly introduced cirucalr but the reply indicated that we have retired and we cannot benefit from the wage increase".

"In 2014, we approached the National Industrial Court, Akure Division to institute a legal procedure for our inclusion to enjoy the benefit through Suit No. NICN/AK/54/2014. Fortunately for us, a judgment was delivered in our favour on 5th October, 2017 with a cost of N50,000.00 awarded against the government.

"Our Lawyers wrote a letter to the then governor to thank and appeal to him to implement the court order in the spirit of peaceful resolution of the matter. We even went on consultations with the stakeholders for amicable settlements but our efforts did not yield any positive result" Ilesanmi said.

"Amidst our efforts to look for ways to dialogue, the state counsel went to file an appeal against the Industrial Court judgment in 2021 after four years of the court pronouncements, at the court of Appeal in Akure in September, 2021 in deviation to the Court Rule which stipulates that an appealed shall be filed within ninety days after the judgement. The court struck out the case on 7th February, 2024 because it was filed out of time.

"To further pursue the implementation of the judgment, our Layers wrote a personal letter of passionate appeal to our dear Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke to intimate him about the issues surrounding the judgment so that he can do something concrete about it in the way that will put smile on our face. We contacted many stakeholders in the government and among the political leaders to help discuss with our listening Governor in order to resolve the matter. We are still expecting a favorable response from the Governor till today. Hence, this press conference which we believe that will catch the attention of his Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke and eventually lead to discussions and positive actions on the implementation of the court order".

The Chairman, said that the current administration of Ademola Adeleke is a product of judicial pronouncements and direct beneficiary of the court process and rule of law, believed that positive response to defend and uphold the rule.of law and obey court order.
