OSUN 2026: Osun West APC Warns Against Division Ahead of Governorship Election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on different groups within the party to suspend all memos and communiqués regarding the 2026 governorship candidacy in Osun State. Stakeholders of the party in Osun West Senatorial District, at a meeting held in Iwo, unanimously agreed that former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has the right of first refusal for the party’s ticket. The meeting, presided over by the Chairman of the Caucus, Akin Omolaoye, was attended by former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, former Speakers Mojeed Alabi and Adejare Bello, Senator Mudashir Hussein, among others. They passed a vote of confidence in the party’s leadership at both the national and state levels, emphasizing that the APC will field the best candidate to win the 2026 governorship election in the state. The Osun State Executive Council has approved the appointment of Prince Timileyin Oluyemi Ajayi, a United Kingdom based IT engineer as the Olojudo of Ido Ajegunle in Obokun local government of Osun state. This was contained in a statement issued by the commissioner for Information, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, on Wednesday. According to the statement, the new king who studied Office and Information Management at Lead City University Ibadan, Nigeria before his sojourn abroad, is an entrepreneur and business owner who invested in the hospitality and the agricultural industry. The management of Hope FM has announced that the station in Ilesa, Osun State, will be switching frequencies from 103.5 FM to 91.3 FM, effective Friday, January 31, 2025. In a statement released by the General Manager of Hope FM, Mrs Abosede Falade, stated that the change in frequency will enable listener to enjoy uninterrupted, high-quality audio transmission. She added that the move to 91.3 FM will provide a crystal-clear listening experience, free from interference. Bowen University Suspends Examination over Student's death. OPEYEMI AKINYEMI. OSOGBO, OSUN STATE. Management of a privately owned Institution in Osun State, Bowen University has announced the death of one of its students in a suspected attack. The deceased, a student of the college of management and Social Sciences of the Institution died on Wednesday night. In a statement by the Registrar of the University, "the student was seen running towards the staff quarters where he suddenly collapsed and hit his head against the pavement, and was immediately rushed to the University Hospital". "The statement notes that the closer inspection of the student shows that he had sustained wound in his abdominal region prior to the fall, while bruises were also seen around his neck, indicative of a struggle or defence wounds". Breaking: Appeal Court Upholds Rahmon Adedoyin’s Death Sentence

The Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, has upheld the death sentence judgment earlier handed out by the High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, to Rahmon Adedoyin, the owner of the hotel where Timothy Adegoke, an Obafemi Awolowo MBA student was murdered in November 2021. On October 29, 2024, the appeal court reserved judgment on the matter 16 months after the Adedoyin had filed an appeal. The appellate court held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death by the lower court. Delivering the judgment,Justice Oyebisi Omoleye also ruled that the Order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel quashed and set aside . The Order of education scholarship to children of Late Timothy Adegoke by Adedoyin and others was also  quashed and set aside.

EFCC Condemns False Narratives on Loss of Officer.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has expressed grief over the loss of one of its officers, Aminu Sahabi  Salisu who was killed in cold blood while on duty by a suspected internet fraudster, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu in Anambra State. Additionally, the Commission views with great concern what it describes as irresponsible, callous,  inhuman and outrageous narratives being circulated on social media on the whys and wherefores of the fatal accident.  The Commission which said this in a Statement explained that it's heinous to reduce the death of a gallant officer who was carrying out patrio tic and official duties to social media razzmatazz.   While it says that there is no justification whatsoever to rationalise a murderous act, the Commission says it is worried that some faceless commentators are pitching their tents with an alleged criminal who unleashed terror on officers of the EFCC in their line of duty.      The EFCC expla...

TCN:18 Power Towers Destroyed in 5 Days

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has raised an alarm over a recent surge in vandalism of its power infrastructure, with over 18 transmission towers vandalized across Rivers, Abia, and Kano States between January 9 and 14, 2025. According to the TCN, the vandalism has compromised the stability of the towers and affected power supply to several areas.  The company in a statement issued by the General manager Public affairs, Ndidi Mbah on Sunday appealed to Nigerians to support efforts to protect the nation's power infrastructure, emphasizing that the transmission network is a collective asset essential for socioeconomic development. The TCN reported that routine patrols by linesmen on January 10, 2025, uncovered damage to towers 171 through 181 and tower 184. Niger Tanker Explosion : 73 burnt beyond recognition while 56 are hospitalized No fewer than 129 persons were involved in the recent petrol tanker explosion at the Dikko junction, Gurara local government area of Niger State, with 73 deaths and 56 hospitalised, including pregnant women, nursing mothers, young and old. The incident, which involved 2 petrol tankers, occurred along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway and resulted in the burning of several shops along the expressway. Residents residing along the Dikko junction woke up to a sad morning when a tanker conveying petrol fell while trying to navigate its way on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway. According to an official of the National Emergency Management Agency, the explosion occurred when the content of the tanker that fell was to be transferred into another one. The Ajeniju of Halleluyah community, Egbedore Local Government area of Osun State, Oba Yusuf Jelili Olaiya, was reportedly beaten to a stupor over a Jummat service dispute on Friday. It would be recalled that the Ajeniju of Halleluyah was installed by the Timi of Ede land, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal which sparked controversy between the people of Ido-Osun and Ede last year. Some youths from Ido-Osun allegedly attacked the Ajeniju of Halleluyah for installing Hammed Tijani as the Chief Imam of Halleluyah community on their land.
