Security: Police in Bauchi gun down two bandits in joint operation.
The Bauchi State Police Command says two bandits have met their waterloo in a joint operation raid in collaboration with special hunters in the Gwana District of Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, a border region with Taraba, Plateau and Gombe States.
In a statement issued by the command's Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakili, he says this is following credible intelligence and established community networks.
It says the operational team encountered suspected bandits during surveillance in the Dajin Madan Forest.
As a result, they got into proactive engagement, neutralised two bandits.
Reports also indicated that additional assailants sustained injuries, scampered in disarray and retreated into nearby bushes.
According to Wakili, one AK-49 assault rifle, as well as nine rounds of live ammunition, were recovered from the bandits.
He says that the operation highlights the commitment of security forces, and community partners, to combat banditry, and enhance public safety.
It adds that the Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to collaborate with community stakeholders, thereby ensuring the protection of citizens’ lives and property, while holding accountable, those involved in criminal activities.
The statement emphasises that the Nigeria Police Force, alongside its collaborators, will continue to intensify efforts to maintain peace and security in the region, fostering an environment, conducive to community resilience and safety.
CSP Ahmed Wakili assured that, in the light of the escalating security challenges, posed by advancing technologies, it is imperative to enhance policing capabilities, through community engagement, to combat rising crime rates effectively, encourage citizens to view security as a collective responsibility.
