CRIME: OSUN NSCDC PARADES FIVE SUSPECTED ILLEGAL MINERS.

Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC has paraded five suspects involving in illegal mining activities at the mining site in Ilesa, Osun State.

During a press briefing at the command headquarters in Osogbo, the Osun State Capital, the Corps Commandant, Kayode Sotiyo stated that the suspects were apprehended for engaging in illegal mining without the necessary mining licenses.

The suspects who hail from Kano State, were discovered at a mining site in Ilesa where they were violating the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act of 2007.

The NSCDC Commandant stated that any mining activity must be conducted with a valid mining lease or permit as specified in Section 2 of the act.

In a separate case, the NSCDC also paraded a 34-year-old man named Akeju Abiodun, who was arrested for theft. Abiodun, a resident of Ijebu Ijesa, was caught stealing 220,000 naira from a shop owned by Mrs. Hammed in a market square in Ijebu Ijesa.

On Friday, 8th November, 2024 five (5) suspects, Ashiru Usman, Umar Sanni, Jamitu Kishau, Yahaya Dairu and Sanni Umar were arrested by the personnel Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC), Osun State Command, Mines and Steel Unit, for illegal mining activities at a mining site in llesa, Osun State.

Discreet investigation revealed that the suspects who are from Kano carry out their illegal mining activities without mining licence and this act contravenes Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act 2007, section 2, which states "No person shall engage in mining activities without a valid mining lease or permit, section 46 of the same Act also states that "any person who contravenes the provisions of this act commits an offence and is liable. 

A case of stealing which involved one Akeju Abiodun, male, 34 years old of Q14 OKE INISA STREET, IJEBU IJESA, Osun State,

The suspect was arrested by NSCDC personnel on 4th of this month for stealing this the sum of Two hundred and twenty thousand naira from one Mrs Hammed's Shop at a Market Square in ljebu Jesa, also on 11th of this month, the suspect from the was caught while attempting to steal another woman's bag in the same market. Mishe.

The suspect made a confessional statement to have committed the offence, discreet investigation revealed that the stolen money was used to buy the following items;-26 inches Mattress, PLASMA TV, A ROOM FURNITURE CABINET Also two android phones suspected to be stolen were found in his possession.

The Corps Commandant urged the public to remain vigilant and report illegal mining activities to help protect the nation's resources and enforce the rule of law.

"I assure members of the public that they will all be prosecuted at the expiration of our investigation. I also want to use this medium to inform the good people of Osun state that Security is everybody's business, hence we are soliciting proactive intelligence that could nip crime and criminality in the bud, so as to serve you better". Commandant said.
