BAD ROAD: COMMUNITY DWELLERS IN OLU-OMO JUNCTION TO ATMAN AREA CRY OUT TO OSUN GOVT
OPEYEMI AKINYEMI
Residents of Olu-omo Junction to Atman area, off New Iragbiji Road, Kelebe area in Olorunda Local Government, Osogbo, Osun State capital, staged a peaceful demonstration to appeal to the state government for the rehabilitation of their community access road.
Carrying placards with inscriptions like "Oluomo Junction road to Atman is no longer passable" and "Governor Adeleke, our road is no longer motorable," the protesters demanded government intervention to address the road's poor condition.
The road, which links 25 communities, including Araromi, Asejere Oke-odo, Aratumi, Akogun, Kuliya, and Alagbede, has been in deplorable condition for years. The protesters cited significant damage to vehicles, refusal of commercial motorcycle riders to ply the route, and erosion threats as major challenges.
Despite communal efforts to maintain the road, the protesters argue that total construction is necessary. They expressed disappointment that their pleas to the government have gone unanswered and appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration to prioritize their road project.
The residents hope their protest will prompt immediate action, noting that while the current administration has constructed several roads in the state, theirs has been neglected.
