ADC Deregistration Judgment Cannot Stand, Says - Najeem Salaam
The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State, Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, has urged members and supporters of the party to remain calm following a Federal High Court judgment reportedly ordering the deregistration of the ADC and some other political parties.
Salaam, in a statement issued on Monday, described the judgment as incapable of standing, insisting that it does not mark the end of the legal process or the party's political aspirations.
According to him, the Nigerian Constitution provides clear avenues for appeal and judicial review, expressing confidence that the judicial process would ultimately protect the democratic rights of Nigerians who have identified with the ADC.
"The judgment is neither the end of the legal process nor the end of our political journey. Democracy is governed by the rule of law, and we are confident that the appropriate legal processes will correct any miscarriage of justice," he stated.
The former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly called on party members across the state's 30 local government areas, the Area Office, and various communities to remain resolute and focused, assuring them that there was no cause for panic.
He described the ADC in Osun as more than a political party, saying it had evolved into a movement driven by the collective aspirations of the people for transparent governance, economic development, quality education, improved healthcare, and adequate security.
"No court judgment at this stage can extinguish the hopes and aspirations of the people," Salaam said.
Reaffirming his commitment to the party's governorship campaign ahead of the August 15, 2026 election, the ADC candidate said the movement remained firmly on course despite the legal challenge.
He noted that the growing support the party enjoys among workers, farmers, artisans, students, youths, women, traditional institutions, and professionals across the state reflects widespread acceptance of its vision for Osun State.
Salaam also cautioned supporters against being distracted by what he described as attempts by opponents to undermine the momentum of the party.
According to him, people-driven political movements often face resistance from forces opposed to change, but such challenges cannot prevail against the collective will of the people.
He maintained that the forthcoming governorship election should focus on issues affecting the welfare of residents, including job creation, access to quality education, improved healthcare delivery, security, stable electricity supply, and good governance.
The ADC standard-bearer assured party faithful and residents of Osun State that all lawful means would be explored to defend the party's democratic rights and the mandate of its supporters.
"We are confident that truth, justice, and democracy will prevail," he said, while urging supporters to remain peaceful, united, and steadfast as the party continues its campaign activities across the state.
