UNIOSUN ASSAULT: Depot Nigerian Army Vows to Deal with Erring Soldiers


The Depot Nigeria Army, Osogbo ,Osun State has commenced investigation into the alleged misconduct of some Army personnel who allegedly assaulted students of Osun State University, Osogbo.

The depot called on individual including the victims as well as leadership of National Association of Nigeria students,NANS to come up with useful information and evidence to help the depot in its investigation.

The deport is equally ready to compensate the victims of the incident as the personnel would found guilty will face full weight of military law.


It said the personnel do not reflect the the training and character development of recruit at the depot and such behavior and attitude would not be condoled in the depot.

In a statement by the Public Relations officer of the depot Nigeria Army Osogbo,Colonel Yahay Ibrahim reaffirms the depot commitment in ensuring that the personnel were held to the highest standard at all time.


The statement noted that Nigeria Army exist to protect all citizens especially youth who was the future of the nation and anything  fall short of that mandate would not be accepted as it maintained that  no students or law abiding citizens should be subjected to intimidation or harassment and assault under any guise.

"The Army has been supportive to the neighbouring communities through
 Provision of security via daily patrols especially around UNIOSUN. This has greatly reduced the prevalence of crimes in and around the university. Conduct  free medical outreach to communities around the barracks. Distribution of free fertilizers to assist farmers for its  neighbours around the barracks"

"The Depot has trained almost 8000 soldiers in less than 12 months who have all been exhibiting exceptional conduct and professionalism. It is therefore unfair to use the action of 6 or 7 soldiers out of 8000 to judge the character of all the soldiers and the image of the institution and  the erring soldiers have been apprehended and in line with military justice system, their disciplinary action already ongoing"


"The  Depot has publicly condemned the act of the soldiers as it announced  that anybody with a valid claim of loss or damaged property should come forward for compensation"

The depot maintained that it would continue to represents the best interest of the citizens as it core mandate is to  protect lives and property of the citizenry and it would never act in a way that could  jeopardize the trust of the citizens whose taxes are  used to pay  for their training.

The statement gave an assurance that the depot would continue to sustain good relationship with its neighbors especially Osun State University adding that its doors are opened to Management, Staff and Students of UniOsun including the leadership of NANS for further discussions on the incident

It would be recalled that some personnel of depot Nigeria Army, Osogbo was alleged to have assaulted some students of Osun State University on Monday this week.
