Osun governorship election: Police deploy 15,000 personnel

The Commissioner of Police in charge of Osun governorship election, Samuel Erale Etaifo, on Wednesday disclosed that no fewer than 15,000 personnel had been deployed for the conduct of the August 15 gubernatorial poll in the state. He explained that his earlier redeployment for the exercise followed mounting tension and violence in the state, which had culminated in attacks and gruesome killings in some parts of the state. Etaifo, who spoke during a session with some police personnel deployed for the election, at Police Officers Mess in Osogbo, however, cautioned them against any act capable of compromising the conduct of the exercise. Osun August 15 2026: INEC Announces Date For Mock Accreditation Exercise

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will conduct a mock accreditation exercise on Saturday, August 1, 2026, as part of preparations for the August 15 Osun State governorship election. According to a public announcement signed by Ariyo Rufus, Head of Department, Voter Education, Publicity, Gender and Inclusivity, on behalf of the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, the exercise is aimed at assessing the commission’s operational readiness and testing the efficiency of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) ahead of the governorship poll. INEC said the exercise would simulate Election Day accreditation procedures but clarified that no voting would take place. Some of the students who narrated their terrifying experience, reported that the perpetrators stormed about 50 hostels, including Cristlag, King's and Queens hostels, unleashing violence and exploiting valuable items.   The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election. Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes to defeat his closest rivals and earn a second term in office.
