BREACH OF FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS: OSSIEC, HASHIM SUE IGP, OSUN CP The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, has sued the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Umar Abba, for the breach of fundamental rights. Joined in the suit is the OSSIEC Chairman, Barrister Hashim Abioye. In the suit, the duo are demanding the sum of two billion Naira as damage for harassment, intimidation and detention of some ad-hoc staff of the commission for committing no offence. Recall that the OSSIEC headquarters had been sealed off by the police a day before the Saturday, February 22, 2025 local government elections in the state which barred residents of the state to have access to the commission. The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission,OSSIEC, has announced Hon. Lukman Afolabi as Chairmen-elect for Ede South Local Government Area of Osun state. This declaration was made by OSSIEC chairman, Hashim Abioye on Saturday night. Abioye announced names of all chairmen-elect for the 30 local councils of the state. Olawale Akerele, has categorically denied allegations that he attacked APC members. Instead, he condemned the brutal attack on PDP members by APC thugs in Ilesa. According to Hon. Afenifere Chieftain, Pa Ayo Adebanjo is dead. He died on Friday morning at his Lekki residence in Lagos at the age of 96 years. A statement by the family said he died peacefully. The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure has upheld the appeal filed by the elected local government officials in Osun under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress  The Court of Appeal unanimously reinstated all the elected Local Government officials who were previously sacked by Ademola Adeleke, and has ordered their immediate resumption of office. Recall that Governor Adeleke on assumption of office in November, 2022 had directed career heads of local government areas and Area Councils Development Areas in the state to take control and charge of their councils from the sacked council chairmen and councillors. Land Dispute: Ifon, Erin Osun Communities Fume As Ilobu Withdraw From Peace Initiative. The leaders of Ifon and Erin-Osun communities in Osun State have described the withdrawal of Ilobu from the ongoing peace committee set up by the government as disrespectful and frivolous. Governor Ademola Adeleke had set up a 100-man peace committee to bring lasting peace to the incessant communal clash between the towns which was headed by the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun and Justice Moshood Adeigbe. However, after three days sitting, Ilobu through a letter to the Governor withdraw from the process, saying it does not trust the chairman and co-chairman. Security: Police in Bauchi gun down two bandits in joint operation.

The Bauchi State Police Command says two bandits have met their waterloo in a joint operation raid in collaboration with special hunters in the Gwana District of Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, a border region with Taraba, Plateau and Gombe States. In a statement issued by the command's Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakili, he says this is following credible intelligence and established community networks. It says the operational team encountered suspected bandits during surveillance in the Dajin Madan Forest. As a result, they got into proactive engagement, neutralised two bandits. Reports also indicated that additional assailants sustained injuries, scampered in disarray and retreated into nearby bushes. According to Wakili, one AK-49 assault rifle, as well as nine rounds of live ammunition, were recovered from the bandits.
